Urban Solutions Lab 2027
Ideas for the City of Tomorrow!
Cities face major challenges—and at the Urban Solutions Lab, we aim to develop solutions. This innovative, hackathon-style initiative organized by the Institute for Work and Technology at the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences in Gelsenkirchen brings together students from various disciplines at different universities (no prior IT knowledge is required) to collaboratively shape the city of tomorrow.
This Year’s Focus:
Bochum City
On January 22, 2027, stakeholders from government, business, and civil society will present current challenges related to sustainable urban development. Following this, interdisciplinary teams of students from universities in the Ruhr region will work closely together on January 22 and 23, 2027, to develop innovative solutions and present them to a panel of experts at a public event on January 28, 2027.
Who can participate?
Students at universities in the Ruhr region (RUB, TU Dortmund, UWH) majoring in geography, urban planning, regional development, social sciences, and Studium Fundamentale—who are interested in sustainability, innovation, and urban development.
